Who are these qualifications
for?
The Level 7 qualifications
in Strategic Management & Leadership are designed for managers who
have the authority and personal inspiration to translate organisational strategy
into effective operational performance. These qualifications are derived
from the National Occupational Standards for Management and Leadership
and are accredited on the UK national qualifications frameworks.
What are the entry
requirements?
There are no specific
entry requirements for these qualifications. However, you are likely
to have several years experience at middle to senior management level.
If you are in any doubt about which is the right level qualification for
you, please contact your Approved Centre. Other qualification options
are available such as Introductory awards and S/NVQs.

structure
The Chartered Management
Institute Level 7 qualifications in Strategic Management & Leadership
offer a highly flexible approach to learning. They allow the freedom
and choice to select from the broad range of units available, allowing employers
and individuals to tailor the size and elements of the qualifications
to suit their specific needs.
Units available to
study at Level 7 include:
Personal development as a strategic
manager (Unit
code 7001 – credit value 6)
You will learn how to
identify and achieve strategic ambitions by constructing, reviewing and
evaluating a development plan to become a strategic leader and take into
account Health & Safety responsibilities on an individual and corporate
level.
Strategic performance management (Unit code 7002
– credit value 7)
You will learn how to
set strategic individual and team objectives to measure performance and
use influencing skills to gain commitment from individuals to a course
of action.
Financial management (Unit code 7003
– credit value 7)
You will learn about
analysis of financial data, accounting conventions and the principles
of management accounting in order to make informed decisions on expenditure
to ensure sustainability.
Strategic information management (Unit code 7004
– credit value 9)
You will learn about
decision making methods, tools and techniques in order to use information
available to make informed strategic decisions and to evaluate and develop capturing
systems within the organisation.
Conducting a strategic management
project (Unit
code 7005 – credit value 10)
You will learn about
research methodology and apply it to a strategic investigative project,
draw conclusions, make recommendations and evaluate the impact of the
project
Organisational direction (Unit code 7006
– credit value 9)
You will learn how to
use a range of methods and techniques to analyse, audit and review the
aims and objectives within the organisation’s strategic plan and determine
alternative options to support a revised strategic position.
Financial planning (Unit code 7007
– credit value 6)
You will learn how to
construct a financial plan which will support the strategic objectives
of the organisation and how to promote, review and evaluate it.
Strategic marketing (Unit code 7008
– credit value 6)
You will learn about
the construction of marketing plans and how to use them to promote and
support strategic objectives and measure the effectiveness of the plan
against them.
Strategic project management (Unit code 7009
– credit value 6)
You will learn methods
and techniques to design a project plan and the various steps involved
in its construction, the impact it can have on organisational objectives
and the role stakeholder support can have on its implementation and operations.
Organisational change (Unit code 7010
– credit value 7)
You will learn methods,
tools and techniques to support you in identifying, developing and implementing
a change strategy, to minimise adverse effects and how to review and analyse
its impact.
Strategic planning (Unit code 7011
– credit value 9)
You will learn how to
produce and implement a plan which will reflect strategic direction,
analyse the purpose of a strategic plan and monitor it, and additionally
assess how the impact of stakeholder expectations may affect the plan.
Human resource planning (Unit code 7012
– credit value 8)
You will learn how to
ensure that HR planning supports strategic objectives, what the legal
implications are of employing staff from recruitment through to dismissal,
and what role external agencies can have in this.
Being a strategic leader (Unit code 7013
– credit value 7)
You will learn about
ethical and value based approaches to leadership, different styles of
strategic leadership and how to gain organisational buy-in through strategic
leadership.
Strategic leadership practice (Unit code 7014
– credit value 7)
You will learn the relationship
between strategic management and leadership and how this supports organisational
values and impacts organisational direction.
Award
The Level 7 Award in
Strategic Management & Leadership is a concise qualification which
allows you to strengthen your existing management and leadership skills
and enhance your knowledge of the various roles and responsibilities
of the strategic manager. Through focusing on specific strategic management
and leadership areas, you are able to tailor the Award to suit both your
personal and organisational development. To achieve a Chartered Management
Institute Award in Strategic Management & Leadership, you need to
complete at least one unitwith a minimum value of 6 credits.
Certificate
The Level 7 Certificate
in Strategic Management & Leadership is a more extensive qualification
enabling you to further broaden and develop your strategic management and
leadership knowledge and skills, whilst still maintaining the flexibility
to focus on the specific management areas appropriate to you and your
workplace. To achieve a Chartered Management Institute Certificate in Strategic
Management & Leadership, you need to complete any combination of
units to a minimum total of 13 credits.
Diploma
The Level 7 Diploma in
Strategic Management & Leadership is a comprehensive qualification
providing you with all of the key strategic management skills to enable
you to perform effectively as a senior manager, enhancing your ability
to focus on the requirements of implementing your organisation’s strategy.
Through completing this qualification you will develop a wide range of
competencies from successful organisational direction and change through
to the effective development, implementation and review of strategic
plans. To achieve a Chartered Management Institute Diploma in Strategic
Management & Leadership, you need to complete units 7001, 7002, 7003,
7004, 7005 and 7006 plus any other 3 units to a total of at least 66
credits.
How are these qualifications
assessed?
Assessment is normally
via practical work-based assignments provided by your Approved Centre.
This ensures you minimise time away from work and that you undertake
work study which is relevant to your own organisation’s context.
How long will it take?
The time it takes to
complete a qualification is dependent on the units you choose and delivery
times and methods do vary from one Approved Centre to another. However,
as a guide:
- The
Award can take as little as 2-3 weeks
- The
Certificate can take between 1-3 months
- The
Diploma can take between 6 to 12 months
