Siemens To Invest £1m To Attract Top Talent

Good news for you if you’re on engineering distance learning courses right now and want to work for one of the biggest engineering companies in the world. Siemens has just announced that it’ll be investing £1 million in its operations in Leeds to help support a new service cell for rail fleet gearbox overhauls.

The move will see up to 15 jobs created over the next five years, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports. Simon Nadin, general manager with Siemens, noted that there is a skills deficit in engineering in the UK and small to medium-sized enterprises are still struggling to find the top talent, adding that it’s important to establish strong links between education and engineering.

Siemens does seem intent on making a base for itself in Leeds. In the last few years, the company has invested £2.5 million in its Leeds factory, increasing the workforce to 65. It’s also been recruiting service engineers to work on wind turbines and will be hiring three more members of staff for this new rail service cell.

If you are going to be looking for a new career opportunity and are already in or near Leeds (or don’t mind relocating for the right job), then it seems that Siemens could certainly be an excellent option.
