Engineering Salaries On The Rise

Engineering is one of the industry sectors in the UK that has experienced above-average pay rises in February, compared to January.

The latest figures from CV-Library showed that salaries for advertised engineering roles were up by 3.6 per cent in February, compared to the first month of the year, Eureka magazine reported.

However, jobs in hospitality and marketing saw even larger month-on-month pay increases, of 6.5 per cent and 4.6 per cent respectively.

There was also an increase in the number of engineering roles advertised in February, with the number climbing by 7.5 per cent year-on-year, despite showing a month-on-month decrease of almost 12 per cent.

Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of the jobs site, explained that this isn’t unusual though.

“We typically see jobs and applications soar in January with both employers and job hunters starting the year on a high,” he stated.

This all indicates that now is a good time to be working in engineering and to look for a new position. It could also be worth undertaking calibration courses to help your CV stand out from the others who are job hunting.

Silicon Republic recently noted that there are many misconceptions about what working in engineering is like, including that the jobs tend not to be creative and that you typically work alone.

The publication spoke to electronic engineer at BD Yiyang Sun, about what working in the sector is really like.

He described every day in his position as “busy and challenging, but also variable and enjoyable”. Mr Sun also revealed that he uses a range of skills every day, including “technical, research and design skills”.
